Communications Committee

Mission

The Communications Committee is reponsible for disseminating information to Venice Stakeholders. Specifially, we (1) oversee the development, maintenance and updating of the VNC website; (2) produce and distribute email announcements including the VNC newletter (coming soon); (3) maintain and update the Stakeholders database while ensuring its confidentiality; (4) manage AV and electronic equipment/supplies for meetings and (5) ensure the VNC Board and Committees comply with BONC Digital Communications policy.

Goals & Objectives

We can do better. There are roughly 38,000 Venetians. Only 465 members of our community (1.2%) voted in the 2025 elections, down from 970 voters (2.5%) in 2023 VNC election, and 1,925 voters in 2019 (5.1%). Unless there is a compelling motion that draws a specific audience, no more than 30-40 people regularly show up at VNC board meetings and many less attend committee meetings.

How can more people become engaged with the VNC and responsibly contribute to solving the critical issues facing our community? The answer starts with effective communication. This includes (1) a re-designed and more frequently updated VNC website; (2) regular distribution of an informative e-mail newsletter; (3) an updated/refined VNC database and (4) clearer explanations for how to get involved (hint: almost any Stakeholder can join a VNC committee, it’s not just for board members). These deliverables and thoughtful pragmatism are the continuing commitment of the Communications Committee. Collectively, we will do better.

Agenda Requests

The Communications Committee conducts its business by reviewing and prioritizing agenda requests for Board action (generally either in the form of a motion or letter) or announcements submitted by stakeholders, governmental entities and other interested individuals and organizations. Communications Committee Committee has the discretion to postpone a request, refer it to a specific committee for review and recommendation, treat it as an announcement or consider and resolve it as a non-Board administrative matter.
