Public Health & Safety

The purpose of this committee is to advise on, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding health and public safety matters.  We collaborate with law enforcement, city council, and residents, to find ways to make everyone safer.

We are a public committee and welcome input from all Venice stakeholders. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to committe chair Jim Fitzgerald using the contact link below.

Resillency Mission Statement:

Venice is vulnerable to multiple hazards, including earthquake, storm flooding, tsunami, civil unrest, pandemic, and terrorism. These hazards can overwhelm local resources resulting in disruption to the physical, economic, and social structures of our community. Our aim is for the Venice community to become disaster resilient by ensuring Venetians, in partnership with Los Angeles City, can effectively respond to, survive, and recover from emergencies/disasters.

How can we organize ourselves, our families, our local businesses, workplaces, and neighborhoods to be disaster resilient? The first steps are easy: Get informed and talk to your family, friends, and neighbors. Fortunately, there are many resources available to assist all Venice stakeholders, see below. By working together in this way, we can preserve the essential nature and future thriving of our whole Venice community.

Call to Action:

Get informed! And consider joining the Venice Public Health and Safety Committee (PHSC) Disaster Resiliency Team to help us enhance Venice’s resilience.

Agenda Requests

The Public Health & Safety conducts its business by reviewing and prioritizing agenda requests for Board action (generally either in the form of a motion or letter) or announcements submitted by stakeholders, governmental entities and other interested individuals and organizations. Public Health & Safety Committee has the discretion to postpone a request, refer it to a specific committee for review and recommendation, treat it as an announcement or consider and resolve it as a non-Board administrative matter.
