There’s no question that the landscape and the skyline of Venice is
changing with remodels of homes and new commercial and residential
buildings that top off at the limits of the Venice Specific Plan – But
what about those fences and hedges!

Fences and hedges that exceed the height limits, and that prevent views
and access violate the regulation but do they also present a safety
hazard for fire and law enforcement?

The Venice Neighborhood Council is presenting a Town Hall on Some
Subjects of Community Safety. Panelist David Lara, LA Public Safety;
Captain Johnson, LA City Fire Department; Michael King, Architect and
member of Venice Neighborhood Council will discuss the regulations and
issues regarding fences and hedges enclosing residential and commercial
property and answer questions posed to the panel. Sitting on this panel,
as well, will be LA Times reporter who will speak about fences and
hedges in the broader communities and their impact on the sense of
community.

The second Panel with Ansar Stan Muhammad, Member, Venice Neighborhood
Council and Chair of the Community Safety and Development Committee;
Chris Williams, member of the Community Police Advisory Board, and a
representative from the LAPD Community Relations staff will discuss
community safety concerns such as gang activities, graffiti, and drugs.
The Community Safety and Development Committee is endorsed by Councilman
Bill Rosendahl and will be working with the community to address these
and other safety concerns and to find ways to improve or eliminate
conditions that create an unsafe environment.
