1. VNC Bylaws Approved!

The LA City Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) approved on
June 9th
a revised set of bylaws approved by the Board of Officers and ratified by
stakeholders.  More information on the new Bylaws can be found here:

Among the changes approved was a change of name from "Grass Roots Venice
Neighborhood Council" to "Venice Neighborhood Council."  The Board of
Officers
will begin the transition to use the new Bylaws immediately, including
the use of VNC rather then GRVNC to refer to the council.

Many thanks to the Bylaws committee for their hard work and to the many
stakeholders that came out to ratify these changes.

2. Board of Officers Meeting (Jun 20)

Where: Westminster Elementary School, 1010
Abbot Kinney Blvd
When: 7 PM - 10:00 PM

Some of the issues the GRVNC Board of Officers will
be considering at Tuesday's meeting are:

 - Chain Store Ban (Abbot Kinney and Ocean Front Walk)
 - 812 Main Street (proposed hotel project)
 - Support for Endangered Arts Fund
 - Approval 2006 VNC Election Procedure revisions

3. Understanding Neighborhood Funding Program & Guidelines (Jun 20)

Where: Westminster Elementary School, 1010
Abbot Kinney Blvd
When: 6:30 PM - 7 PM

Steven Baule from the DONE Funding Department will speak to all
Board Members/Committee Chairs at 6:30 PM before the regular
Board meeting. The topic will be "Understanding the Neighborhood
Funding Program & Guidelines."

ALL Board Members/Committee Chairs are required to attend in order
to understand funding questions/issues.  Stakeholders are also
welcome to attend to learn more about how DONE funds neighborhood
councils.

4. Overnight Parking District (OPD) Training Sessions (June)

The OPD committee was establish to help with outreach,
information and to generally help to coordinate the efforts
of residents that wish to take advantage of the OPD
ordinance for their street.

Anyone wishing to gather signatures on an official petition
to establish an Overnight Parking District in their area
must attend a manditory training session on one of the
following dates:

6. Election Volunteers Needed

We will need volunteers to help with the outreach for our
 upcoming VNC election scheduled for September 17. 
If you would be willing to help with one of the following
tasks, please contact:

* Outreach to community groups
* Poll Workers
