1. Bylaws Confirmation Vote on Monday (May 1)
As most of you know, the Board of Officers approved at
their March 29 meeting a new set of Bylaws.
The Venice Stakeholders have an opportunity to ratify
these changes at a special election meeting on Monday,
May 1, at Westminster Elementary School (1010 Abbot Kinney
Blvd, auditorium) from 7pm to 9pm.
It is important to come out to show your support or
opposition to these bylaws changes by voting on Monday.

Please bring proof of stakeholder status with you to the

2. Land Use and Planning Committee Agenda Posted (May 3)
The agenda for this coming Wednesday's Land Use and Planning Committee is now available.
Included on the agenda are the following items of interest:
** Special Question and Answer Session.
Helen Bibas, Advance Planner with the LA City
Planning Department will discuss the path a project takes through the
Planning Department and answer questions from LUPC and the public.
Public input through question cards which will be provided for the public.
** Marina Villas. Developers: Oxford Triangle Limited
Partners. Proposed 26 homes on 2.1 acres to be R-1 as per the
Oxford Triangle Specific Plan in the Oxford Triangle.

3. Reminders: Disaster Expo (Apr 29), Venice Alive (May 7)

** 3rd Annual Disaster Preparedness Expo (Apr 29) **
Vera Davis McClendon Youth and Family Center hosts a
Disaster Preparedness Expo, with the latest info on preparing to
survive an earthquake; includes presentations and demonstrations by
response agencies including the LA Fire Dept. Community Response
Team, American Red Cross, Emergency Volunteer Air Corps and
others. There will be giveaways of adult bicycle helmets and
knee/elbow pads. Former Councilwoman Ruth Galanter will
be honored. Free.
When: Saturday, April 29, 10am - 3pm

** Venice Alive Volunteer Opportunity (May 7) **
Venice Alive, a health fair and community service project, will take place
in Venice on May 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Oakwood
Recreation Center located at 767 California Avenue. The health fair
is part of the Mayor's Day of Service activities throughout Los Angeles.
The Day of Service provides opportunities for volunteerism and
community involvement.
The Venice Alive Project, first proposed by a Student Health Outreach group
at UCLA, Student Health OUTreach (SHOUT), has been joined by a number of
partnering entities, including the Grassroots Venice Neighborhood Council,
the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, the Los Angeles City Attorney's
office, Kid Watch, Venice 2000, the Venice Chamber of Commerce and the
Venice Rotary Club, Department of Recreation and Parks, among others. Health
providers include UCLA, the Venice Family Clinic, APHC, Latino Women's
Resources Center, South Central Care and more than twenty other community
organizations. A pancake breakfast will be served throughout the day of the event.
Volunteer opportunities for this community event include: setting up and closing
down the event, assisting with parking and traffic, working at health provider,
neighborhood council and community non-profit booths, donating cash and
refreshments, clean-up, event communications and marketing.

4. Venice Neighborhood Council in the News

edition of the Santa Monica Mirror giving my
perspective on what issues the GRVNC might
be addressing in the second half of the year.
