1. April Board of Officers Meeting (Apr 18)

When: Tuesday April 18 @ 7pm
Where: Westminster Elementary School (Auditorium)

  a. Budget & Finance Committee:
    i. Request from Lincoln Place task for $1000 for Lincoln Place mediation.
    ii. Request for $1000, for refreshments, to support Mayors Day of Service

  b. Executive Committee : Approve appointment of Sara Mannes as chair of Animal Welfare Ad Hoc Committee.

  c. Land Use & Planning Committee:
    i. Affirm LUPC decision regarding 938 Palms Ave, 2 unit condo project
    ii. Affirm LUPC decision regarding 1633 AKB, restaurant proposal

  d. Rules and Election Committee:
    i. Approve May 1,2006 Bylaws Ratification election procedures
    ii. Approve election procedures for September 2006 Board of Officers election

2. Reminders: Bylaws Vote (May 1), Disaster Expo (Apr 29), Venice Alive (May 7)

** Stakeholder Confirmation of Bylaws Changes (May 1) **

The hard work of our Bylaws Committee was acknowledged by
the GRVNC Board at their March 29 meeting and the Board
voted by 15-4-2 to approve the recommended Bylaws.

The fate of these Bylaws is now in the hands of the
Venice Stakeholders who will be asked to ratify
these changes at a special election meeting scheduled
for May 1.

When: Monday May 1, 2006, 7pm to 9pm

** 3rd Annual Disaster Preparedness Expo (Apr 29) **

Vera Davis McClendon Youth and Family Center hosts a
Disaster Preparedness Expo, with the latest info on preparing to
survive an earthquake; includes presentations and demonstrations by
response agencies including the LA Fire Dept. Community Response
Team, American Red Cross, Emergency Volunteer Air Corps and
others. There will be giveaways of adult bicycle helmets and
knee/elbow pads. Former Councilwoman Ruth Galanter will
be honored. Free.

When: Saturday, April 29,  10am - 3pm
Where: Vera Davis McClendon Youth and Family Center

** Venice Alive Volunteer Opportunity (May 7) **

Venice Alive, a health fair and community service project, will take place 
in Venice on May 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Oakwood 
Recreation Center located at 767 California Avenue. The health fair 
is part of the Mayor's Day of Service activities   throughout Los Angeles. 
The Day of Service provides opportunities for volunteerism and 
community involvement.
 
The Venice Alive Project, first proposed by a Student Health Outreach group 
at UCLA, Student Health OUTreach (SHOUT), has been joined by a number of 
partnering entities, including the Grassroots Venice Neighborhood Council, 
the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, the Los Angeles City Attorney's 
office, Kid Watch, Venice 2000, the Venice Chamber of Commerce and the 
Venice Rotary Club, Department of Recreation and Parks,  among others. Health 
providers include UCLA, the Venice Family Clinic, APHC, Latino Women's 
Resources Center, South Central Care and more than twenty other community 
organizations. A pancake breakfast will be served throughout the day of the event. 

Volunteer opportunites for this community event include: setting up and closing 
down the event, assisting with parking and traffic, working at health provider, 
neighborhood council and community non-profit booths, donating cash and 
refreshments, clean-up, event communications and marketing.
