3. Lincoln Place Apartments Tour (Dec 18)

From: Laura Silagi
To: GRVNC Stakeholders

WHY LINCOLN PLACE MATTERS!
Free tour of Lincoln Place Garden Apartments
When: Sunday, December 18, 2005 - 2 p.m.

Walking tour of Historic Lincoln Place Garden Apartments with Vital
Policy discussions of issues
that affect the fate of our communities and neighbors! Learn about the
history and current situation.

Who: The Los Angeles Conservancy, Preservationist experts, Locked-out
Lincoln Place residents,
Urban Planners and Residents and Community Leaders.

What: A walking tour of this historic complex with apartment visits,
guided by L.A. Conservancy
members and others, with policy discussions along the way on development
vs. historic preservation,
the impacts of tenant displacement on neighborhoods, the Ellis Act, and
how the tenants’ current
situation impacts the future of communities.

Where: Meet at the Lincoln Place Tent City - Frederick and California
Streets in Venice, adjacent
to the Lincoln Place Apartments. 1 mile south of the 10-freeway exit at
Lincoln Blvd. Frederick is
1 block east of Ross Dress For Less on Lincoln Blvd. (For rainy weather
info alternative contact below.)

Why: The historic Lincoln Place Garden Apartments are under dire threat.
The owner of the property, AIMCO (Apartment Investment and Management
Company) has been trying to evict tenants in order to demolish the
property and build condominiums. 86 residents (including 21 children)
have already been locked out, with the remaining 83 households of
seniors and disabled tenants slated for lockout in March. Discuss
the policies that led to this and what can be done to change them.
See this rich historic landmark and meet residents who have maintained
a vibrant and diverse community as they have fought for the past 18
years to stay in their homes.

History: Lincoln Place Apartments (33 acres, bordered by Palms Blvd.,
Frederick St., Lake St., and Penmar Ave. in Venice), a 668-unit garden
apartment complex built in 1950, was unanimously awarded
Historic District designation by the California State Historic Resources
Commission in August 2005. Ralph Vaughn, an important African-American
architect who had worked with Paul Williams, designed the complex and
was also one of the first African-American set designers working under
Cedric Gibbons.

4. Lost Dog/King Charles Spaniel

From: Prissi Cohen <Comolyon@comcast.net>

Last night 12/10/05 during the fireworks and boat parade in Marina del Rey,
this dog was frightened and got loose from his collar and leash. He was
last seen around Lighthouse and Speedway. He is 2 years old, weighs about
30 pounds. He is black and white. I just met his owners who are desperate
to find him and are offering a reward.

If you have seen him, have another email list you can send this to, or have
any contacts in the Marina, please make a call to see if anyone has seen
this dog.

The reward is $1,000.00. If you know anything, please call Sam at (323)
252-9532.

Thanks.
Prissi Cohen
