Homelessness and Poverty

Hate Speech Blog?

Why isn’t there a moderator for blog posts? Many of the posts are quite hateful and inflammatory toward certain people based on their housing and economic status.

Is the Venice Neighborhood Council a forum for hate speech?

New Homeless Services for Venice?

Apparently the Housing Subcommittee of the ‘Homeless Task Force’ has drafted recommendations for the Venice NC board to consider (see below). These recommendations seem to completely ignore a significant concern by many Venice residents about the profound impact of concentrating homeless services in Venice rather than working for a regional and/or more resident friendly solution to the problem.

Whole Foods donation to Westside Food Bank

Hi everyone,

Attached are photos of the West Side Food Bank after two truck deliveries of Whole Foods/Wild Oats product. We’re told the folks at the food bank were ecstatic to receive everything. Thanks for suggesting this organization as they are able to reach out to so many other social service agencies in and around Venice.

In the second photo, Adele Martin and Ned Mandella of Whole Foods Market Santa Monica are posed with Bruce Rankin, the WSFB director (center).

Regards,

Lydia Cervera

Whole Foods coming

Appaarently Whole Foods will be moving to the Big Lots, CVS, 99 Cents location at Roseand Lincoln next year. The 99 Cent store is a mojor resource for the lower income and homeless people in Venice. It is always packed with these people who are dependant on its extremely low prices. Somehow we need to address this issue. Can 99 cents stay, or move to another near-by location? Can we get Whole foods to have a super-discount or day-old corner or room? How are these poor people going to have there essential needs met? Can GRVNC somehow get involved in this?
