Filming

I live on McKinley Avenue, which is a small street with approximately 20 houses in the Silver Triangle section. One home on my street allows television and movies studios to film at his house so often that he has turned his home AND my entire street into a movie studio.

Showtime uses his home as the home of the main charter of one of its ongoing series. This causes my street to be filled with movie crews at least two days a week for the entire summer.

I’m all for keeping jobs in LA I would not mind an occasional filming, let’s say 4 times a year. However, it seems unlawful for this homeowner to deny me peaceful enjoyment of my home. I must keep my windows closed because the diesel fumes from the generator fill my home, instead of the sea breezes. They film well into the night filling my home with light and noise.

My street is zoned residential – it seems unlawful that one of my neighbors is in the business of renting his home on a routine basis.

I would be appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction to find some relief from the situation. There are plenty of charming homes in Los Angeles, the studios need to move around.

Response from CD-11

Marc Saltzberg – I forwarded your concerns to Arturo Pina from the CD-11 office. He did some research (see below). If filming proceeds beyond what he details below, please call his office and ask for them for further assistance.

Here’s Arturo’s response:

Hello there:

Per FilmLA, “Californication” from Showtime used this house extensively from 2/1/07 until 10/28/07-it was a permanent location and the production company did what they could to keep the peace.

Since 10/28/07, there has been nothing permitted until the still photo shoot last Friday and “Californication” is going back for a third of the day on the 30th and then that is it for them as it is no longer a permanent location.

So, hopefully, all will be peace and quiet but this particular house is “high design” and popular with production companies.

Sincerely,

Arturo Pina

Thank you, Marc! This is

Thank you, Marc! This is helpful information. I'm convinced that the writer's strike was the only reason why no permits were issued between 10/28/07 and now. As Arturo states, there have been still and film crews there three days in the past week. This house is used repeatedly by production crews. Last year it was Californication, the year before was CSI Miami ... the list goes on and on. He has turned renting his house into a business. Enough is enough.

call 311 and explain your

call 311 and explain your situation to the operator and ask to be connected to the agency that regulates filming in la. a few years back, we were having much filming on our block and this agency helped us by stopping the issuing of permits for our block. presently there is a block a few streets over from us that is used quite often and the neighbors there demand and receive payment from the filmers.

Ask for a cut of the action

Ask for a cut of the action and then move to a hotel for the time there are there. David is making so much money from Fornacation there is no way he would not allow them to continue. All you can do is ask the producer to pay you some, god knows Showtime is making plenty off this show to afford it.
