[grvnc.org] Election Town Hall Meeting, Wed, May 4, Westminster Elementary

Grass Roots Venice Communications Officer Announcement
######################################################

To: Venice Community
From: Greg Nelson, General Manager, DONE
Subject: Upcoming Community Meetings

As you may know, notices have been delivered
throughout the Venice area announcing three
public meetings through which stakeholders are being
invited to attend, understand, discuss, and provide
input on the [2005 GRVNC General Election including]:

(1) Election procedures,
(2) Date of election,
(3) Independent Election Administrator, and
(4) Final Decision Maker.

Then the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners
will make the final decision in lieu of the
GRVNC board which is unable to meet and
discuss business. This is the same process
that was used successfully in Van Nuys and
Greater Wilshire.

In each of these communities, a set of proposed
election procedures was used as a "starting point"
for the discussions. In the case of GRVNC, the
starting point will logically be the procedures
that were appropriately in place for the last
election.

To be clear, these meetings will not include
discussions about changing the bylaws.
That is not what the Board of Neighborhood
Commissioners authorized us to do. There will be an
explanation of the current bylaws because the
election procedures cannot conflict with them.

This process normally takes four meetings.
In an attempt to speed up the process in Venice,
we're going to try and facilitate these meetings in
a way that gets the job done in three meetings.
But this is going to require sticking to the agenda,
realizing that not everyone will get to speak,
and that these will be tight, focused, no-nonsense
meetings.

The first meeting will be :

Wednesday, May 4
6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Westminster Elementary School
1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Topics for May 4 include:

* The Election Process and Bylaws
* Choosing the election day
* Choosing the type of election
* Choosing an Election Administrator
* Choosing a Final decision maker

The following meetings will be on May 19
and June 2. Same time, same place.
