VNC's Mission Statement

The Venice Neighborhood Council was certified by the LA Department of Neighborhood Empowerment in March, 2002 and the original bylaws of the organization were approved and the area of representation defined.


On March 29, 2006, the Board of Officers approved amended bylaws. These bylaws were ratified by Venice stakeholders on May 1, 2006 and approved by DONE and subsequently amended. The current version of the Bylaws and Standing Rules:

We are governed by state and local laws and assisted by the City of Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment.

About the Speaker
sharonMarkenson 3The Climate Reality Project educates citizens about the science of climate change and what they can do to deal with this problem. A life-long environmental advocate, Sharon Markenson speaks frequently on this topic, letting citizens know how commitment and motivation can improve the future.

Ms. Markenson taught secondary English/Language Arts in Los Angeles Unified School District for 35 years. She co-coached the El Camino Real High School Academic Decathlon Team to three national titles and continues to coach the teams’ speeches as a volunteer.
